It's been a while since my last print release, but just in time for spring comes Emerald Leaves, an oversize (24"x24") poster of an emerald composed of hundreds of images of green leaves. A natural companion to the Moon Diamond, it's being released along with four other new large-format photographic prints. So be sure to check out the TBP shop, which now features almost 20 different posters, and as always thanks for reading!
New TBP Prints
A Sneak Peek Into TBP
I recently did a studio tour for Herman Miller's Lifework, giving them a peek inside my home office/studio and answering a few questions about my workspace. Check it out to learn more about my minimalist compulsions, dreams of concrete floors with drains and preference for foggy mornings with Otis Redding.
New Large-Format Prints
You might have noticed that it's been a while since my last round of shilling prints, but never fear, I'll always be here to endlessly promote my own wares!
My newest series is an attempt to do something completely removed from my normal comfort zone, pairing photography with digital manipulation and large-format printing to achieve dramatic prints both in concept and scale. Each is printed on a Canon plotter with heavyweight matte coated paper, allowing huge prints to be created at a relatively inexpensive cost.
The first four prints are now available in the TBP shop, with many more soon on their way. Thanks for enduring yet another sales pitch, and for being the best readers on the web!
0 People Like The Best Part!
Hey, we all have to start somewhere. I've finally come to the realization that Facebook can be more than just another advertisement for the blog and my shop, so I've created a new page in the hopes of creating a more interactive, community feel than previous iterations of my Facebook page on the Networked Blogs platform (which turned out to be terribly UN-interactive). Here I plan to share more personal information, stories, photos and the like, in hopes of establishing a more personal dialogue with readers, artists, fans and friends. You can Friend TBP on Facebook by clicking on the link to the right, and I hope to see you all there! Thanks for your continued support and readership, and let's get 2011 going!
Give the Gift of Good Fortune
Hello all, hope the holiday season is treating you well! If you're still scouring the earth for gifts (like me) for the mailman, your favorite barista or the acquaintance from high school who won't stop facebook stalking you, maybe I can help. Our newest print series, "Fortune Posters" features illustrated phrases taken from actual fortune cookies on 12" x 18" bond. You can submit to the fortune gods by ordering one, in which case I will randomly select and send you your fortune in poster form. Or order the entire set of 8 posters to ensure you receive your favorite. You can also get your fortune by ordering any other print in our shop, in which case I'm including a free fortune poster with every order. Either way, it's a fun project that encourages interaction and a bit of uncertainty...order them for the whole office and give everyone their fortune!
TBP on Supermarket
It's been a crazy month or two around here at TBP, just one more announcement and I swear I'll be done with the self-promotion for a while. With that said, I'm proud to announce that The Best Part has been invited to create a shop on Supermarket! From now on, TBP prints will be available both in my own personal shop at TheBestPart.com and alongside tons of other amazing artists at Supermarket. As always, thank you for your continued support and patronage!
The Best Part: Holiday Greetings
As with every holiday season, a number of talented designers and artists have created some amazing holiday cards/posters/mailers/promotions to celebrate the holidays. In order to pay tribute to those who have worked so hard to send their greetings, I've assembled this list of some of my favorites, aka "The Best Part" of holiday greetings (sorry, I couldn't resist). Click on each image to see more about it, and enjoy!
Sneak Peek: The ABC's of Branding
As previously mentioned here, I've been working on some posters of my own. Although not completely finished, here's a sneak peek at the first in a series of many: The ABC's of Branding. Using no ink whatsoever, these posters are printed using a foil stamping and embossing process that I think fits the concept of looking at brand marks and type in general with a certain reverence (whether in a good or bad way). One is silver foil on black paper and one gold foil on cream, both stocks are French Pop-Tone. Although the online shop is far from complete, these will be for sale in the near future on a separate section of The Best Part. So for now, see how well you know your brands! (I've posted an answer key in the comments section so you can figure out which letters are which brands).
1,000th Post!
The Best Part has now been in existence for a year, and in that time I've somehow managed to publish 1,000 posts while maintaining a full-time job (thank god I have an understanding, equally ambitious boss who has taught me quite a bit about this blogging thing...thanks Fred)! I've featured the work of some of the world's best designers, artists, and all sorts of creators of fantastic things, and accumulated a following of the greatest, most loyal readers in the process. For that I thank you, and promise to continue to bring you only the most incredible, inspiring work I can manage to find in the world of the interwebs.
What's on the horizon for The Best Part? The evil plan I've had all along is to incrementally expand the site to include more and more original content, which will soon include my personal work, a shop that will feature my own handmade posters, giveaways from many incredible artist friends of TBP, and eventually a project that will bring art instruction and collaboration to children in parts of our country that have never had the chance to experience an art class. And hopefully I'll still manage to maintain both my current level of sanity and incredible job...keep your fingers crossed!
So, who is the lucky subject of my 1,000th post (other than myself)? Since posters may possibly be my favorite things in the world, it's only fitting that my 1,000th post introduce the subject of this week's Poster of the Day segment. This week I'm taking the blog back to my roots in Columbus, Ohio and introducing you to the magnificent work of FarmBarn Art Co., the incredibly talented duo of Mike Pierce and Drue Dixon. With posters designed and printed for such clients as The Dave Matthews Band, Iron and Wine, The Arcade Fire and Kings of Leon, Mike and Drue don't need my help bringing their work to the masses....but they'll get it anyway. Enjoy!
