Detroit as a Spectacle

Lately there seem to be quite a few artists coming out of the woodwork to use the dilapidated state of Detroit for their own purposes. As a society (and an art-buying market) it seems we all love to see it displayed as a source of pity and sensationalism by "documenting" the remnants like a car crash.

Among these many artists, however, there are some that are actually celebrating the beauty that was Detroit in its heyday by documenting it before it's gone forever. Two of these artists are Yves Marchand and Romain Meffre, their series "The ruins of Detroit" thankfully approaches the subject from a point of celebration rather than pity.
