The Eko Light by Damjan Stankovic lets drivers (and pedestrians) know how much time is left in the red cycle of a traffic light, allowing you to divert your attention from the light, or shut off your car for a little while to cut down carbon emissions.

I think this is a brilliant idea, but will drivers sit there and treat the light as a countdown to flooring the gas? Or the opposite on a green light, speeding up excessively to make the light.
True...it's only proposed for red lights at the moment, so treating the light as a drag race countdown would be the only drawback.
With most engines, stopping your engine for such a short time then restarting it is actually uneconomical.
