Sanna Paananen

Simple and perfectly composed, Finnish illustrator Sanna Paananen's work has a fun, rhythmic quality.

Ryan Mrozowski

Enjoy the fantastic and slightly surreal paintings of Brooklyn artist Ryan Mrozowski. Maybe I should just make this a Brooklyn-only blog....seriously, it's getting ridiculous.

Designed By Family

UK studio Family is doing some nice work, I especially like this small collection of posters:

Poster of the Day

Ron van der Ende

Crazy relief sculpture/painting/installations by Ron van der Ende. Whatever they are, they're pretty awesome.

Update from Ron himself....this clears up a lot of things:

Actually they are not painted at all. They are bas-reliefs, almost flat, constructed from pieces of old wood. All the colors come from doors and other painted wood I find in the garbage. I strip them and take them apart and saw them into a 3mm thick veneer with the old paint layers still intact. This veneer is then jig-sawed to size and nailed down to form shapes, shadows, reflection etc.

Labour Intense

Brooklyn office Labour has created this fantastic short animated film about the international opium/heroin system, focusing on Afghanistan. Not only is the content important and insightful but the design is simple and beautiful, enhancing the narrative as it unfolds.

Han Sungpil

Photographer Han Sungpil's series titled "My Sea" is full of haunting ocean imagery, much of which you can't tell whether the subject is above or below water, resulting in soft, blurry minimal goodness.

Poster of the Day

This week's Posters of the Day come from Seattle artist Sasha Barr, better known as poster-printer extraordinaire The New Year.

Heal's Discovers

Nice packaging of luxury scented candles for Heal's Discovers. Via Lovely Package.

Migdalia Valdes

Beginning her series "Everyday" with the admirable quest to photograph one roll of film a day, Migdalia Valdes created a daily habit in order to erase the line between herself and her work.

Enormous Champions

The husband-and-wife duo of Jordan Provost and Jason Wong are a perfect match (one designer and one printmaker), creating some beautiful work from their Brooklyn studio/print shop Enormous Champion. Too bad my wife has no interest in operating a letterpress for me.....or does she (shifty eye motions and twirling of nonexistent moustache)?

Wink if You're Green

Minneapolis design studio Wink has designed some fun graphics for a whole line of products for Rebel Green, an eco-friendly line of everything from bags to clothing to veggie wash.

Lizania Cruz

Philly designer Lizania Cruz has a fantastic portfolio, as well as a dream job as a designer for a company that really seems to "get" good design in Anthropologie.

Clark Goolsby

Clark Goolsby creates these amazing colorful mixed media pieces using everything from magazine clippings to human skulls (I'm assuming he uses fakes?). That gives me an idea...maybe I'll donate my postmortem remains to art instead of science. Can you do that? Via Kitsune Noir.

Brooklyn designer/illustrator Tyler Lang takes inspiration from nature to create his fun, colorful and informational work.
