Timeless Design
The designer behind much of the minimal look of American Apparel, Carlos Tarrats has a fantastic style reminiscent of Josef Muller-Brockmann or Armin Hofmann.

Photographic Painting
Victor Schrager photographs still-life setups that reach beyond their individual content, becoming abstract compositions of color and light.

Dystopian Beauty
Erik Benson paints post-apocalyptic cityscapes, using a rather interesting process of painting on glass, peeling off the paint once dry and placing it on the canvas....like colorforms for adults! Via OK Great.

Shepard Fairey...Eat Your Heart Out
Samaraendra Raj Singh's paintings start with traditional Indian religious iconography, and are then given a postmodern twist. The resulting abstract patterns, shapes and textures are simply stunning.

Be Prepared to Feel Like a Slacker
Every once in a while, you come across an artist who is simply too smart for their own good. Photographer Hiroshi Sugimoto is one of those people who makes you feel like you should be reading a lot more, the conceptual thought he puts into each piece is incredible. To get a sense of what I'm blabbering about, go to his site and read the descriptions that accompany each series of his vast portfolio.

In the Company of Ghosts
Matthew Woodson, aka Ghostco, has recently updated his site with new work, which is phenomenal as always. You can also now order prints of some of his best work in his shop....what better way to stimulate the economy?

One More Thing to Love in Vancouver
I found the painting and collage of Ryan Buchnea, aka Fontski, while researching the work of fellow Vancouver artist Ben Tour (featured below). Combining printed type, graf style writing, photography, illustration and paint, his work is sure to be seen in a gallery near you.

The Last Days of W
Photographer Alec Soth has released his newest series, The Last Days of W, documenting the effects of the presidency of George W Bush on America itself.

Better Late to the Party Than Never
I just found the work of letterpress duo Beautiful Angle online today, and I have to admit I'm a bit ashamed that I didn't know of them earlier. They've been creating and wheatpasting their work around Tacoma, Washington for several years now, highlighting issues and events surrounding their fair city. A noble cause and some fantastic work.

Whatever That Means
Meredith Dittmar creates these incredible sculptures from polyurethane foam, fiberglass resin & polymer clay.

Two is Better Than One
I love the double-exposed genius of photographer Tierney Gearon.

Art in 2009 BC
Vancouver, British Columbia illustrator/painter/phenomenal artist Ben Tour does some incredible multimedia portraits. My Toronto friends can check out his newest work at Meta Gallery until February 15.

Sans Ralph Macchio, of Course
Illustrator Elizabeth Garvey has a great "ode-to-the-outsider" style, I especially love her hand-drawn type.
